Broadcom Ltd has rolled out a portfolio of 5A gate drive optocoupler devices geared for a number of industrial applications such as motor drives and power inverters. The ACPL-352J and ACNW3430 feature outstanding common mode transient immunity (CMTI) of up to 100kV/μs, preventing erroneous gate driver failures in noisy environments, stated the company.

Both the ACPL-352J and ACNW3430 support up to 5A rail-to-rail output current, which eliminates the need of an output buffer circuit, enabling designers to implement cost-effective and power efficient gate driver solutions, Broadcom noted.
Expanding upon previous generation devices, the ACPL-352J incorporates a set of fail-safe IGBT and MOSFET diagnostics, protection and fault reporting, which has become an integral part of ensuring system reliability and high availability. Both the ACPL-352J and ACNW3430 feature minimal propagation delay with excellent timing skew, enabling high frequency switching to improve efficiency in driving IGBT and SiC/GaN MOSFET, the company indicated.

The devices boast high CMTI that providing > 50kV/μs [ACPL-352J] anf > 100kV/μs [ACNW3430]. In addition, it offers functional safety protection and reporting: UVLO with feedback, over current sensing, soft turn-off, fault feedback, and active miller clamping [ACPL-352J], and UVLO for bi-directional power supply [ACNW3430].
The ACPL-352J features propagation delay of 100ns typical, while the ACNW3430 is at 80ns typical. The devices also flaunt worldwide safety approvals such as UL1577, CSA and IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5.
Samples and production quantities of the ACPL-352J and ACNW3430 will be available in June 2016 through the Broadcom direct sales channel and via worldwide distribution partners.
