Broadcom recently launched its latest portfolio of optical component solutions for multi-mode fibre (MMF) and single-mode fibre (SMF) optical transceivers. The products include solutions for short-reach and long-reach optical networking applications such as data centre and enterprise networking, high performance computing (HPC), Fibre Channel, metro Ethernet transport, and Ethernet Mobile Fronthaul.

Broadcom's one-stop-shop solutions for 25G to 300G short reach applications include chip kit solutions of VCSELs, photodiodes (PDs) and physical medium dependent integrated circuits (PMD ICs) consisting of transimpedance amplifier (TIA), clock and data recovery (CDR) and laser driver (LD) for data centre, storage networking and HPC applications. Supporting multiple data rate configurations including 1x25-32G, 4x25/28G and 12x25-28G, the chip kit solutions enable a variety of short reach MMF transceiver solutions including active optical cables (AOCs) and embedded optics with leading edge optical, RF and thermal performance.

Its selection for 25G to 100G long-reach applications includes a wide range of transmit optical subassembly (TOSA) and receive optical subassembly (ROSA) devices supporting various transceiver module form factors, data rates and long transmission links using SMF.

The 25G LR TOSA/ROSA is designed for the SFP28 module form factor supporting 28G Ethernet, 32G Fibre Channel and the emerging 25G Ethernet Mobile Fronthaul applications with link distances up to 10 km.

The 4x25G CWDM4 TOSA/ROSA designed for the QSFP28 module form factor supporting intra-data-centre connectivity with 100GbE links up to 2 km.

The 4x25G LR4 TOSA/ROSA designed for the CFP2 and CFP4 module form factors supporting metro Ethernet transport with 100GbE links up to 10 km.

Broadcom's optical components for both short reach and long reach fibre optic communications leverage its in-house GaAs and InP based device technologies with over 3 trillion device service hours each in the field (< 1 FIT) since 2005.
