Subsea position sensor supports proof pressure up to 7500psig

Macro Sensors has introduced the SSBR–937 submersible LVDT position sensor that operates at pressures up to 5000psig, outfitted with a CANopen interface. According to the company, the sensor complies with the CAN in Automation (CiA) 443 profile for subsea instruments, allowing interoperability and standardised communications in deep sea environments with devices from different manufacturers.

The high–reliability position transmitters achieve a mean time between failure in excess of one million hours when encased in special alloys. They also withstand a proof pressure of up to 7500psig. Proof pressure is the maximum pressure to which a device can be exposed, after which it will return to its normal operating pressure range and perform within specification.

Other key specifications include linearity error of ≤ ±0.10 per cent of full range and repeatability error of ≤ ±0.01 per cent of full range at 25°C. Operating temperature range is –30°C to 80°C, with a temperature sensitivity of 0.027 per cent/°C maximum. The SSBR-937 series can be used in a variety of subsea measurement applications including off-shore drilling platforms, pipeline monitoring, choke valves and remotely operated vehicles.
