Allegro MicroSystems LLC has introduced a linear voltage regulator IC with control, diagnostics and protection features that targets the demanding requirements of automotive applications. The A4481 regulates input voltages between 5.25V to 40V, down to a 5V ±1 per cent accurate output voltage, and can supply up to 50mA of load current.

Geared to power sensors, low power MCUs and transceivers in interior and underhood automotive control units, the A4481 also boasts a diagnostic output that includes a Power OK (POK) output.

Protection features include output protection from a short-to-battery event up to 32V, for instance in the case of a wiring harness fault. Protection also includes input undervoltage lockout (UVLO), foldback overcurrent protection, output undervoltage and overvoltage protections (UV/OVP) and thermal shutdown (TSD), detailed the company.

The AEC-Q100 qualified A4481KLJTR-T device is available in an 8-pin SOIC package with exposed pad for enhanced thermal dissipation. It is lead (Pb) free, with 100 per cent matte-tin leadframe plating. It is priced at $0.64 in quantities of 1,000.
