200V drivers target high speed IGBTs, power MOSFETs

Infineon Technologies AG has added a device to its 200V driver IC portfolio with the introduction of the IRS2005 (S, M) for high voltage, high speed IGBTs and power MOSFETs. According to the company, the driver IC offers comprehensive protection for motor drive applications with strict space constraints such as electric garden equipment, golf carts, power tools and mobility scooters.

The IRS200x family consists of high-side & low-side and half bridge drivers using Infineon's high-voltage junction isolation (HVJI) technology to realise small packages while remaining tolerant to negative transient voltages. The 200V devices are tailored for low-voltage (24V, 36V and 48V) and mid-voltage (60V, 80V and 100V) applications. They enable high system level efficiency and power density while providing the necessary robustness, noted the company.

The IRS200x family consists of six devices with a typical sink current of 600mA and source current of 290mA. The devices are compatible to 3.3V, 5V and 15V logic components. Across the family the driver ICs feature VCC undervoltage lockout (UVLO) while the IRS2005 also includes VBS UVLO, further improving system reliability. The driver ICs are designed for bootstrap power supplies that eliminate the need for large and expensive auxiliary power supplies typically needed in discrete optocoupler- or transformer-based designs. Additionally, the IRS2003 and IRS2004 include integrated deadtime and shoot-through protection. The devices feature low quiescent currents and a shutdown input pin.

The IRS200x driver ICs are offered in eight-pin SOIC, eight-pin DIP or fourteen-pin 4mm x 4mm MLPQ packages with various logic input options and standard pin-out configurations for high design flexibility and fast time to market. Production samples of the IRS200x devices are available.
