Photovoltaic chip company completes funding round

Sol Chip Ltd, a developer of an energy harvesting photovoltaic chip based in Israel, has concluded a round of funding led by Dowell Property Holdings Ltd of Hong Kong.

Dowell and its subsidiaries operate restaurants in Hong Kong and invest in property in the People's Republic of China, according to a Financial Times database.

Sol Chip, founded in 2009, has begun offering an energy harvester photovoltaic cell chip, the Saturn 100, which offers a selection of six output voltages from 0.75V to 9V. The company said it would use the $5 million to expand operations and recruit more staff.

Sol Chip describes its Saturn chip, which is available on the Eval-101 evaluation board, as the everlasting solar battery. From a die size of about 1cm2 it can provide 4mW in direct sunlight and up to 22µW in office lighting situations, the company said.
