Microsemi SSD offers long-term security

Security is top priority when it comes to information that could make or break a military strategy. With that in mind, solutions provider Microsemi has introduced a compact serial advanced technology attachment (SATA) solid state drive (SSD) for industrial, defence, intelligence, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and laptop computers. Featuring Microsemi's Armor processor, the low-power mSATA SSD boasts long-term security and performance with a 64GB single-level cell (SLC) flash capacity.

The device is the newest addition to the TRRUST-Stor family of SSDs in a compact MO-300 mSATA form factor. The 50mm x 30mm SSD includes security features such as hardware-based AES-256 XTS encryption and advanced key management systems. The new Armor III processor features capability to sanitise the drive with the NSA 9-12 protocol in less than two minutes, up to three times faster than industry competitors.


The product offers security not readily available in a standard mSATA SSD. Advanced key management modes and isolated key fill capabilities protect unpowered data at rest by assuring that the encryption key does not reside in the SSD once power is removed.

For sensitive applications, a hardware or software signal can trigger an erase of the encryption key in less than 30ms. A second security layer can be activated to erase the entire storage media in less than 10s, rendering data forensically unrecoverable.
