DC-DC front-end module targets HVDC distribution

Vicor unveiled the VIA BCM K=1/8 DC-DC bus converter module. The integrated VIA BCM operates from a 380VDC and delivers a SELV 48V output in a 9mm-thin module that features EMI filtering, transient protection and inrush current limiting.

With the VIA BCM, soft-switching bus converter technology enables DC-DC front ends with density and efficiency than competitive products. VIA BCMs can be paralleled to provide multi-kW arrays, provide bi-directional power processing and support Power Management Bus (PMBus) digital communication capabilities. Utilising a robust high voltage DC (HVDC) power conversion technology, the modules are suited for HVDC distribution in data centres, microgrids, ICT equipment, ATE and industrial systems.

PCB-mount VIA BCM modules are available now and will be available from Vicor-authorised distributors in June 2015. Chassis-mount VIA BCM modules will be available in July 2015. Pricing starts at $0.08/W in OEM quantities. Future entries in this product family will include 12V and 24V outputs.
