Inforce outs micro system-on-module for embedded apps

Inforce Computing rolled out its new Inforce 6501 Micro System-on-Module (SOM). The SOM is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon805 processor with 2.7GHz CPUs. The Snapdragon 805 processor comes with the Qualcomm Adreno 420 GPU, Qualcomm Hexagon DSP v50, dual image signal processors, and Ultra HD (4K) video and graphics support. The Micro SOM comes with up to 3GB PoP LPDDR3 RAM on a 2x64bit high-bandwidth memory bus.

Measuring just 28mm x 50mm, the Inforce 6501 Micro SOM targets space constrained embedded systems applications that require 4K HD video and graphics, low power consumption and high-end CPU, GPU and DSP compute performance. The Inforce 6501 Micro SOM offers the latest mobile platform technology required in portable medical imaging, enterprise collaboration/videoconferencing, robotics, drones and hands-free computing/head mounted displays.

The Inforce 6501 Micro SOM complements the Snapdragon 805 processor's capabilities with comprehensive access to peripheral devices and technical support to deliver a full set of benefits to embedded systems developers:

  • Fast, flexible prototyping: the Inforce 6501 Micro SOM exposes the full array of interfaces on the Snapdragon 805 processor including 3x MIPI CSI cameras, Dual MIPI DSI and touch screen displays, micro-HDMI, USB 3.0, USB2.0, PCIe, GPS, Wi-Fi, BT4.1, RS232, I2C, SPI, UART, SDC and GPIO's accessible via two very low profile 100-pin connectors
  • Gives system designers the maximum amount of flexibility and control over their projects by providing the core Snapdragon 805 processor functionality while exposing a maximum level of system I/O for customer designed carrier cards
  • Android function and peripheral support with a KitKat 4.4 BSP that includes drivers for GbE, SDIO, Wi-Fi, BT 4.1, GPS and video acceleration up to 4K resolution, cameras up to 55Mpx resolution, and highly flexible power management

The Inforce 6501 Micro SOM is competitively priced at $225 stand-alone. Embedded systems designers have the option of purchasing a complete development kit at a price of $449, which includes the following:

  • The Inforce 6501 Micro SOM
  • A carrier board, which comprehensively expands the I/O and connectivity
  • A starter kit with power supply, micro-USB cable, and an acrylic base
  • Integrated sensor board that includes 10-axis (Accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, pressure) and motion sensors
