Targeting Internet of Things (IoT) applications, Texas Instruments (TI) has brought to market its SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3100 and CC3200 modules. According to the company, the SimpleLink family was introduced earlier this year as a low-power platform to ease connectivity with IoT solutions. The latest offerings feature complete antenna reference designs for streamlined integration.

TI's SimpleLink Wi-Fi platform promises faster time to market and greater assurance of interoperability as the modules are Wi-Fi Certified and FCC/IC/CE/TELEC certified, which can be transferred to end products. The solutions also offers flexibility to programme applications using any MCU with the CC3100 module, or leverage the CC3200's integrated, user-dedicated, programmable ARM Cortex-M4 MCU, allowing customers to run their own code on-chip, TI indicated.

Additionally, the devices boast the industry's lowest power consumption for battery operated devices with a low power radio and advanced low power modes supporting the ability to run on two AA batteries for more than a year, stated the company. They also ensure simplified development for the IoT with quick connection, cloud support and on-chip Wi-Fi, Internet and robust security protocols, requiring no prior Wi-Fi experience to get a product connected. Moreover, the module guarantees simple and secure connection to a Wi-Fi access point (AP) using a phone or tablet app, or a web browser, with multiple provisioning options including SmartConfig Technology, WPS and AP mode.

The SimpleLink Wi-Fi CC3200 modules (CC3200MOD) and CC3100 modules (CC3100MOD) are available from the TI Store as part of TI's sample programme. The CC3200 module is available for $19.99 per 1,000 units while the CC3100 module is available for $14.99 per 1,000 units. Additionally, the CC3200 module LaunchPad (CC3200MODLAUNCHXL) and CC3100 module BoosterPack (CC3100MODBOOST) are available. The CC3200 module LaunchPad is available for $59.99 while the CC3100 module BoosterPack is available for $49.99.
