LG Chem has developed what it boasts as the world's largest OLED lighting panel that has a lumen-price ratio equating to 5lm/$. The 320mm x 320mm OLED light panel is 0.88mm thick and claims an efficiency of 60lm/W, CRI over 90, and has output levels of 800lm with a nominal input of 8.5V at 1,600 mA.

An output of 1,200lm is similar to a 60-75W incandescent lamp. The OLED light panel shows the potential for first time for OLEDs to be used as a light source for general purpose use.

LG Chem, which has begun mass production of the 320mm x 320mm panels, is also making available engineering samples of a flexible plastic-based OLED light panel that has increased the bending radius flexibility of the panel to 30mm by using a plastic substrate for the panel, which reduces the potential for shattering the panel.

LG claims the OLED panel can be easily folded backwards.

The plastic-based OLED light panel claims a brightness of 75lm. Production volumes of the flexible panel are slated to start in July 2015.
