The India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA), the leading trade body representing the Indian electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) industry, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to encourage ESDM industry ecosystem in the region.

Under the MoU, IESA will assist the Uttar Pradesh Government in: setting up ESDM incubation centres in the state at mutually identified locations to foster start-up ecosystem and indigenous product development; development of strategic roadmap for ESDM industry in the state, preparation of detailed project reports for the Brownfield/Greenfield EMC at identified locations; setting up international desks for the state in mutually identified foreign locations; and talent/skill development.

IESA has provided immense support to various state governments such as Government of Maharashtra and Odisha by proposing strategic roadmaps and attaining faster approval of EMC applications, thereby catalysing the economic growth of the states.

"Government of Uttar Pradesh has identified ESDM as a focus to ensure economic growth, enhance employment opportunities, promote indigenous product development and safeguard investors' business intention in the state. Along with IESA, we are confident to create a favourable ecosystem for electronics manufacturing in the state and build Uttar Pradesh for a brighter tomorrow," said Shri Jiwesh Nandan, IAS, principal secretary, department of IT and electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh

"IESA has been making proactive contributions to speed-up design-led electronics manufacturing in India and we take pride in partnering with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to promote start-up ecosystem, set-up EMCs, and create platform for talent and skill development and provide strategic roadmap to the state for ESDM sector. We commend Government of Uttar Pradesh's effort to ensure 'Make in India' in the state and we are confident to induce the required momentum needed to ensure success for 'e-Uttar Pradesh 2015.' The IT and electronics policy issued by the Government of Uttar Pradesh indicates the sincere and serious intent defined under the leadership of honourable chief minister Shri Akhilesh Yadhav to expand the ESDM footprint in the state," said Ashok Chandak, chair, IESA.

IESA will provide a strategic roadmap to Government of Uttar Pradesh to drive the state's electronics manufacturing agenda. In this collaboration, the state government will provide the requisite support to IESA and obtain necessary permission, registrations, approvals and clearances etc. as per the existing facilities, rules and regulations of the state. The state government will also help to avail incentives under various schemes announced by state and central government, wherever applicable. The state government will facilitate and support IESA to complete the initiatives in a time bound manner.
