Oscilloscopes able to analyse high-speed CAN FD interfaces

Rohde & Schwarz has announced that its R&S RTE and R&S RTO oscilloscopes make it one of the first suppliers to deliver analysis solutions for the CAN flexible data (CAN FD) interface protocol. According to the company, the option allows design engineers to analyse CAN interfaces that support the high speed CAN FD bus protocol. These interfaces are increasingly being used in automotive and industry applications that necessitate increasing data rate requirements, added Rohde & Schwarz.

Introduced in 2012, the CAN FD serial bus protocol with a maximum data rate of up to 15Mb/s boosts controller area network (CAN) performance. This benefits, for example, the automotive industry in developing modern motor management solutions. The R&S RTx-K9 option enables R&S RTE and R&S RTO oscilloscope users to analyse interfaces of this type and trigger to protocol details. Hardware-based decoding makes finding errors with the oscilloscopes especially fast, which accelerates the design verification and commissioning processes for chipsets with CAN FD interfaces.

Oscilloscopes support high speed CAN FD

Users can trigger directly to telegram start, telegram stop and data values and use the high performance search and navigation function to find relevant events in the CAN FD bus protocol. Decoded telegrams are displayed as colour coded bus signals in a waveform diagram or as a table. The software option from Rohde & Schwarz also supports industry standard CAN dbc files for describing bus configurations. The R&S RTE and R&S RTO allow users to simultaneously decode up to four serial buses from analogue or logic signals.

Rohde & Schwarz offers a number of additional product solutions for its oscilloscopes that are tailored to the automotive industry. They include the CAN/LIN and FlexRay triggering and decoding options for debugging during component development and integration. There is also an option available for verifying BroadR Reach compliance, a technology that is increasingly used for networking various in vehicle systems.

The R&S RTO-K9 CAN FD triggering and decoding option is available from Rohde & Schwarz. The R&S RTE-K9 triggering and decoding option will be available starting December.
