100G TOR switch targets rack-scale data centre deployments

Algo-Logic Systems Inc., a provider of gateware defined networking (GDN) products and solutions for data centres, accelerated finance and Internet of Things (IOT) industries, has unleashed its 2nd generation GDN 100G Top-of-Rack (TOR) switch that boasts rack-scale service provisioning with load balancing on Altera 100G Stratix V GX board.

The Algo-Logic's 2nd generation GDN 100G TOR switches can selectively forward packets from a 40Gb/s or 100Gb/s input port to multiple 10Gb/s or 40Gb/s endpoints within and across data centre racks, noted the company. It also load balances and evenly distributes network traffic across servers with the same request. Network operators using GDN TOR switch can substantially increase their network performance with not only high throughput but also reduce their network latency and power resulting in significantly lower data centre total cost of ownership (TCO).

2nd generation GDN 100G TOR switch

The GDN TOR 100G switch reference design performance metrics include: packet forwarding rate of 150 million packets per second (MPPS) per FPGA; highly efficient traffic forwarding to compute and storage servers nodes within and across racks; line-rate network interface speeds of 10GE, 40GE and 100GE without dropping packets; latency of less than 1ms that is nearly 45 times less latency than with software sockets; and power consumption rate of less than 0.12uJ/packet that is about 100 times less than sockets, detailed the company.

Algo-Logic's 2nd generation GDN TOR switches support network function virtualisation (NFV) in software-defined networks (SDNs) and allows optimised rack-scale cloud providers to provision services in their networks, added Algo-Logic.

To enable rapid deployment of the 2nd Generation GDN 100G TOR switch, Algo-Logic Systems will provide a hands-on tutorial at the upcoming IEEE Hot Interconnects Symposium to be held at the Google Campus on August 28th.
