India intends to open an IT hub in East Timor and has tasked Gurjit Singh, Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN & Timor Leste to relay the message to Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão during his recent visit at the island nation, the Indo Asian News Service reports.

The planned Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (CEIT) as well as an offer to bring a business delegation from the Jakarta-based India Business Forum were appreciated by the prime minister, according to a statement released by the Indian embassy.

Students in Timor-Lester are eligible to avail of 10 scholarships every year for short- and medium-term courses under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC). India also offers the same number of scholarships yearly for East Timor students to take undergraduate and post-doctoral level courses in India.
