Swissbit AG has released the S-40 and S-40u Series SD and Micro SD memory cards that the company said are the first SD and Micro SD cards on the market to feature autonomous data refresh with no intervention required by the host or application.

Thanks to intelligent algorithms, the memory cards claim to deliver up to one hundred times longer data retention than conventional SD memory cards, stated the manufacturer.

The memory cards are equipped with intelligent read disturb management (RDM) alongside an autonomous, performance-neutral background "auto refresh" process.

This type of data care management significantly improves data reliability and balances out the increasing limitations of MLC NAND flash during long operation time and extensive use in the field. Data transfer rates reach up to 11MB/s for write and up to 24MB/s for read operations, putting them into SD3.0 speed class 6.

S-40 SD cards are available up to 32GB; S-40u Micro SD cards are available from 4GB up to 16GB.
