PEAK System has uncloaked its PCAN wireless gateways that enable the connection of CAN busses to a WLAN. According to the company, the solution is aimed at testing new cars or geared for industrial installation where it is necessary to connect data acquisition systems and test data generators to the internal CAN bus of the vehicle or automation equipment.

The gateway wraps CAN frames into TCP or UDP message packages and forwards them across the IP network. Configuration of the devices is provided by a web interface. It provides two high-speed CAN channels with a bit rate of up to 1Mb/s.

The WLAN interface supports IEEE 802.11 b/g and establishes its connection via an internal chip antenna. Thanks to its extended operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, the PCAN-wireless gateway is suitable for use in industrial and automotive environments.
