Intel will invest more than $120 million in uniting current research and development infrastructure in Bangalore. The company's existing campus at Sarjapur Ring Road will see the addition of a third facility estimated to be completed by early to mid-2015. The core competencies of Intel India include CPU, SoC, software and graphics and it hopes the new site will advance its global competitiveness in chip design.

"Our new capacity in Bangalore will give us the right resources to make a meaningful difference as the company moves into exciting areas like the Internet of Things. This move reinforces Intel's commitment to invest and grow in India," said Intel India President Kumud Srinivasan.

A spokesperson for Intel told EE Times India that the investment will help consolidate their workforce across two campuses. Asked whether the expansion will prompt Intel India to employ additional staff, the spokesperson said hiring requirements will be determined by business needs as they arise.

The foundation stone was laid by Shri S R Patil, Honourable Minister for IT and Biotechnology, Science and Technology, Planning and Statistics, Govt. of Karnataka and Shri Arvind Limbavali, MLA of Mahadevapura constituency.
