NXP Semiconductors N.V. has announced a major update to the integrated development environment (IDE) for NXP's LPC MCUs, based on Eclipse. The LPCXpresso 6 claims to offer many features as a result of NXP's acquisition of Code Red Technologies, the makers of Red Suite. The company has doubled the download limit for the Free Edition to 256kB, and has introduced a Pro Edition of LPCXpresso providing unlimited code size downloads and one year of email-based support, directly from NXP engineers.

Accoring to NXP, LPCXpresso 6 provides a powerful family of tools, software and debug support for all NXP LPC MCUs based on the ARM processor platform. The creation of C++ application and library projects is now supported, in addition to projects written in C. The CMSIS-DAP debug adapter support enables native debug using a range of low-cost debug adapters, including mbed development boards for rapid prototyping.

The IDE features multi-core debugging via LPC-Link 2. The simultaneous multi-core debugging for dual-core devices includes the NXP LPC4300 MCU family. The LPCXpresso 6 also announces support for LPC MCUs based on ARM7 and ARM9 processors. The full range of NXP LPC microcontrollers are supported, in addition to Cortex-M based devices.
