High-speed digital-to-analogue converters (DACs) with high resolution in the 12- to 14bit range enable new kinds of transmitter designs that utilise a direct modulation scheme. In such designs, the modulated transmission signal is generated directly on the base frequency. This application note explains how direct-sampling RF DACs enable new communications systems like high-speed cable infrastructure applications.
