India and Japan decided to look at the possibility of setting up a Japanese Electronics Manufacturing Township (JEMT) in New Delhi. The township is expected to reduce imports of electronic goods and contain trade deficit.

"Both sides have noted the idea to establish a Japanese Electronics Manufacturing Township with Japanese assistance in India with world class infrastructure and agreed to take this up in the forthcoming Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting," the government said in its release.

"Steps have been taken to form a joint working group for greater cooperation in the IT and electronics sector." The decision for setting up of JEMT was taken in a meet between the Commerce and Industry Minister of India, Anand Sharma and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshimitsu Motegi.

A Japan Help Desk has been set-up in the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) with the mandate to facilitate Japanese companies in investing in electronics sector in India.

India has received Rs.92,767.30 crore ($14.75 billion) in form of FDI between April 2000 and June 2013. Japan has made seven per cent investment in India of India's total FDI.
