US-based manufacturer Flextronics said that it has formed a new accelerator 'Lab IX', based out of Milpitas, California, (where the company also has its Product Innovation Center).

The accelerator programme will "provide a broad range of support to early-stage game-changing, disruptive technology companies incorporating hardware and software innovation," Flextronics said in its statement.

Lab IX will offer office and shop space, new product introduction services, design and advanced engineering support, and access to Flextronics' global supply chain and manufacturing expertise.

Lab IX will focus on applicant companies with less than three years of product development and comprise small teams of technically-minded leaders. "Flextronics will award Rs.2.72 crore ($500,000) to each selected company to grow their ideas," according to a news report by TechCrunch.

"We are excited to offer Lab IX services to help growing technology companies take their products to market and the next level," said Mike McNamara, CEO of Flextronics. "We believe that engaging with game-changing companies at an early stage will not only benefit Flextronics, but will provide those companies with the ability to leverage a wealth of experience in hardware design, manufacturing and logistics from all of the Flextronics business units and specialised partners in an unprecedented scale."
