Broadcom's new processor targets NAS devices

The company said the StrataGX series delivers highly secure anytime, anywhere access via a line-rate encrypted connection. Broadcom's StrataGX devices deliver highly secure and faster connections to the cloud via a wired or wireless network to allow the rapid flow of multimedia information.
According to Broadcom, the StrataGX BCM5862X series delivers high-bandwidth storage interfaces that include SATA and USB3 for local caching of cloud data. It also features dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processors that operate at 1.2GHz and integrated Gigabit Ethernet switch and PHYs that enable support of high-bandwidth applications. Additionally, the series comes with a Linux Development Kit (LDK), reference designs and standard open source software tools that the company said reduce engineering
development and time-to-market.
Likewise, the reference software enables security acceleration for fast and secure access to multimedia, whether accessing content from the home or a remote location, and boasts pin compatibility with previous generations, leveraging customers' existing investments.
The BCM5862X Series is sampling with volume production slated for 4Q13.
