While many smartphone users are still struggling for 3G and 4G to be available, Samsung Electronics is testing its 5G technology. Samsung said that it has successfully tested its super-fast fifth-generation (5G) wireless technology that witnessed data transmission of more than one gigabyte per second over a distance of two kilometres.

5G is a next-generation telecommunication network that has a maximum speed of tens of Gbps, hundreds times faster than today's 4G LTE that has a maximum speed of 75 Mbps.

The 5G network speed can allow users to download an ultra-high-quality movie file within a second. LTE takes 1 minute and 24 seconds to download an 800-MB movie.

The new technology, which is expected to be ready for the commercial market by 2020, would offer transmitting speeds "up to several hundred times faster" than existing 4G networks," quoted Samsung as saying.
