Korean firm to set up solar panel unit in Kerala

Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Korean company Jusung Engineering to set up a solar cell and module manufacturing facility in the State.

The MoU was signed between Tom Jose, managing director, KSIDC and Tae Kwang Kang, vice president, Jusung Engineering, a company which is engaged in the development and production of solar cell manufacturing equipments.

A pre-feasibility study, expected to be completed in May 2013, will be carried out to establish the techno-economic viability of the project. After that the joint venture will prepare a detailed project report. It will also prepare a marketing plan for the proposed project.

"The agreement for the joint venture will be executed once the feasibility of the project is established," KSIDC stated.

The cost of the project for the first phase is estimated to be Rs.500 crore. The proposed facility would manufacture solar cells and modules with dimension of 6-inch and having 20 per cent efficiency with an annual capacity of about 100 MW in the first phase.

KSIDC will assist to tie-up land, power and other infrastructural support required for the project.
