Fan motor driver touts Hall sensor, digital AGC

ROHM rolls the BU6904GF/NUX and BU6906GF/NUX fan motor drivers with digital automatic gain control (AGC) for notebook PCs, tablets, and gaming systems.

Together with AGC, the devices, which use CMOS processes and original circuit technology, have a built-in Hall element that does away with the need for a separate Hall device, enabling smaller devices that use less power and make less noise.

They also feature PWM soft switching drive to minimise Hall signal waveform fluctuations for improved circuit efficiency and noise characteristics.

The increasing complexity and speeds of electronic devices increase the demand and applicability of cooling fan motor drivers. However, due to motor characteristics such as signal detection accuracy it has become commonplace up to now to utilise a discrete 2-chip configuration consisting of a separate Hall IC and motor driver. But the trend towards decreased size and greater miniaturisation requires smaller, thinner components and fewer external parts, making it necessary to develop a driver IC that integrates a Hall element.

The BU6904GF/NUX and BU6906GF/NUX fan motor drivers are available now, at a sampling price of Rs.80.85 ($1.52) each.
