Apple and Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC have agreed to settle their global patent dispute, ending all of their lawsuits. In addition, the companies said they have entered into a ten-year licensing agreement.

"HTC and Apple have reached a global settlement that includes the dismissal of all current lawsuits and a ten-year licence agreement," both the companies stated in their separate releases. "The licence extends to current and future patents held by both parties. The terms of the settlement are confidential."

"HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said, "We are glad to have reached a settlement with HTC."

"We will continue to stay laser focused on product innovation."

Both the companies were fighting more than 20 cases in the world, according to reports. It all started in March 2010, when Apple filed lawsuits against HTC with the International Trade Commission and U.S. District Court.
