KEMET Corp. rolls the T545 High Energy Polymer Tantalum Series of surface mount capacitors designed for applications such as solid state drives (SSD), wireless cards and GPS systems.

The series is part of the KEMET Organic Capacitor (KO-CAP) product family of capacitors with a Ta anode and Ta2O5 dielectric. The cathode plate of the capacitor is a conductive organic polymer instead of the usual MnO2 plate. KO-CAPs may also be operated at steady state voltages at up to 90 per cent of rated voltage for part types with rated voltages of ≤10V and up to 80 per cent of rated voltage for part types >10V. These products are also available with a tin lead (SnPb) leadframe finish, surge current testing options and standard or low ESR levels.

The company claims that the T545 series was developed to deliver the highest energy density of any tantalum surface mount device offered today. It is said to deliver very high capacitance and low ESR in a low profile solid state construction surface mount package.

Typical markets include computer, industrial, lighting, medical, defence and aerospace, telecommunications, and transportation. These devices range in price from Rs.54.64 ($1) to Rs.273.22 ($5) and complement KEMET's TSM and T520 Series.
