Multisensor module with 9DoF enhances accuracy

STMicroelectronics N.V. (ST) rolls the INEMO-M1, a smart multi-sensor module that touts 9 degrees of freedom (DoF) and 32bit processing unit targeting applications such as gaming, human machine interface, robotics, portable navigation devices and patient monitoring.

The device from ST senses and assimilates linear acceleration, angular velocity, earth gravity and heading. The INEMO-M1 enables users to precisely detect their direction, orientation and movements in all three dimensions.


INEMO-M1 touts an ARM-Cortex based 32bit MCU.

The sensing accuracy can be enhanced with the 32bit MCU's capability to embed dedicated sensor-fusion software. It integrates the outputs from all the sensors and uses sophisticated prediction and filtering algorithms to automatically correct measurement distortions and inaccuracies, according to ST.

The INEMO-M1 is a compact 13 x 13 x 2mm unit that integrates a 6-axis geomagnetic sensor, a 3-axis gyroscope and an STM32, an ARM-Cortex based 32bit MCU. The module offers a range of interfaces including USB 2.0, CAN, USART, SPI, I2C, analogue-to-digital channels for external inputs and flexible power-supply options.

ST's INEMO-M1 system-on-board is sampling with volume production scheduled for Q2 12.
