Cavium Inc. has entered into a partnership with Intel Corp. for the development and marketing of Intel WiDi-based wireless display products. The collaboration seeks to combine Cavium's low latency video processing technology with Intel's WiDi in order to increase its interactivity and widen its target application.

Thus, several OEMs will soon be offering Intel WiDi compatible receivers with Cavium's PureVu media SoC. As a part of marketing strategy, Cavium will demonstrate its Intel WiDi receivers during CES 2012.

"Intel WiDi-based laptops have enjoyed a very rapid adoption in the market during the past two years, expected to pass the 20Mu mark by the end of 2011," said Kerry Forell, product manager, Intel Corporation. "Through this collaboration with Cavium, we expect our customers to be able to offer products with a broader range of wireless display capabilities, which in turn should translate to more choices and enhanced experience for consumers."

Leveraging Cavium's PureVu media processors, customers can deliver a new line of Intel WiDi compatible receivers that offer best-in-class wireless content sharing for next generation Intel notebooks, tablets, and handsets, the companies said. In addition, as TV and PC monitor OEMs adopt Cavium's media processors for their next generation products, consumers can enjoy this enhanced Intel WiDi experience as an integrated function inside the display.
