Yahoo is updating its open search web services platform, Search BOSS (Build-your-Own-Search-Service), with new home for Yahoo! Search BOSS——and three new offerings for site owners, developers and publishers.

According to the search engine firm, the offerings address user engagement, traffic recirculation, monetisation, and high development and maintenance costs.

Yahoo is introducing BOSS Hosted Search which offers a free-of-charge customisable web search experience. "In minutes, you can configure a web search experience much like the Yahoo! Search page with structured content, search refiners, image modules and other rich assets. Simply pick the bells and whistles that meet the look and feel you desire, insert the generated code snippet into your page and you are done. It is Search built your way and offers opportunity to apply for revenue sharing through search advertising."

The new BOSS Site Search, available through the company's Private Alpha programme, provides a hosted site search solution for publishers, enabling them to keep users more engaged with the content and stay longer on your site.

And, BOSS Shortcuts delivers technology that understands the content to help analyse article pages and find terms that engage with the reader. When users click on these terms, a contextual window is presented filled with relevant results from the site, the web, and Yahoo's ad marketplace. It is available for the US, Canada, India, and UK markets.

In addition, the company has also unveiled new updates for the Yahoo! Search BOSS API (application programming interface). This includes simplification of the process of signing up for Yahoo! Ads; and developers can start getting access to ads and monetizing offerings.
