Aptina Imaging Corp. offers the AR0832E, a backside illuminated (BSI) sensor featuring a 1/3.2in optical format and 8MP sensor with a 1.4µ BSI pixel that touts digital still camera performance in smartphone cameras.

The AR0832E captures sharp video and crisp snapshots in various lighting operations—from low light to bright light environments. According to the company, it built upon its experience and know-how in developing advanced frontside illuminated (FSI) pixels with Aptina A-Pix technology.

The BSI advances include incorporation of deep photodiodes to increase full well capacity and extend dynamic range, precisely engineered pixel architectures to achieve enhanced light sensitivity, and advanced CFA alignment techniques to lower cross-talk and achieve higher QE and colour accuracy.

Aptina's AR0832E is sampling now with high volume customer shipments expected in Q2 12. It is available in die form.
