The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) announces the appointment of Sanjay Mehrotra, president, CEO and co-founder of SanDisk Corp., to its board of directors. In his new position, Mehrotra will represent North America as regional leadership director.

SanDisk Corp. is said to be a global leader in flash memory storage solutions used in devices ranging from mobile phones, tablets and digital cameras to notebook computers and enterprise servers. Its products claim to impact the lives of hundreds of lakhs of people on a daily basis.

"Because flash memory is a crucial technology that has enabled continued innovation in a wide range of consumer electronics devices, the flash industry has become a strategically important part of the semiconductor ecosystem," said Mehrotra. "It is my privilege to serve on the GSA's board of directors and to represent the flash industry."

Mehrotra's board presence claims to strengthen GSA's commitment to one of the largest and fastest growing segments in the industry.

Mehrotra co-founded SanDisk in 1988 and became president and CEO in January 2011. Mehrotra has more than 30 years of experience in the non-volatile semiconductor memory industry, including engineering and management positions at SanDisk, Integrated Device Technology Inc., SEEQ Technology Inc., Intel Corp. and Atmel Corp.

"Sanjay brings a wealth of knowledge to the GSA Board, evidenced by his leadership and vision to make SanDisk an industry leader with a proven success model in the memory segment," said Jodi Shelton, co-founder and president of GSA. "I am honoured to welcome Sanjay to our Board. His experience will help guide us to address challenges within the supply chain and help determine the right solutions."
