Wind River unveils Network Acceleration Platform that enables efficient infrastructure equipment. This Acceleration Platform is optimised for multi-core silicon, which enables efficient scaling of network performance with the cores in a processor.

This multi-core acceleration solution touts improved efficiency and packet acceleration for higher level protocols. This release led to the expansion of hardware support for Intel Xeon and Freescale QorIQ next-generation multi-core processors.

"Network equipment providers are racing to tackle the growing challenges of delivering high-performance network products that scale to meet the exploding traffic on 3G, 4G and wireline networks," said Mike Langlois, general manager of networking and telecommunications at Wind River. "Wind River Network Acceleration Platform allows project teams to spend their time developing high value, intelligent networking applications while easing migration to cutting-edge silicon. Wind River delivers a comprehensive network acceleration solution that fully leverages the benefits of multi-core technology for breakthrough networking performance."

According to the company, using a multi-core asymmetric multi-processing (AMP) approach, the Wind River Network Acceleration Platform enhances the standard Linux networking stack to support high-performance acceleration capabilities far exceeding what is possible using symmetric multi-processing (SMP) mode alone. Wind River's unique AMP approach enables packet acceleration that provides as much as 10x the performance of standard Linux configurations. The platform is also an integrated solution that eliminates bottlenecks throughout the entire networking platform.

The company offers the necessary elements and expertise, in operating system, virtualisation, and networking technologies, to make high-performance systems work in a unified and smooth fashion.
