10GigE port shipments show 21% growth in 2011

According to In-Stat, 10Gb Ethernet port shipments recorded a y-o-y growth of 20.8 per cent in 2011, although from Q4 10 to Q1 11, worldwide Ethernet port shipments fell 7 per cent, while revenues decreased 12 per cent.

According to In-Stat, on a y-o-y basis, Ethernet port shipments increased 2 per cent while revenues were down 8 per cent.

"From a market share perspective, Cisco continues to hold the top spot in Ethernet switching, although they've seen a small drop over the past year," says Brad Shaffer, Analyst. "HP Networking, which didn't exist in its current form a year ago, comes in at number two, and D-LINK rounds out the top three."

Also, according to In-Stat, Europe fell 2 per cent from 35.6 per cent to 33.6 per cent, North America also dropped, falling from 30.1 per cent to 27.3 per cent. From Q4 10 to Q1 11, regional market share shifted noticeably. The Asia Pacific region accounted for 31.7 per cent of shipments, up from 30.7 per cent the previous quarter. The rest of world category experienced a large bump, mainly because of increased shipments to Latin America and now comprises about 7.5 per cent of worldwide port shipments. In-Stat finds that Gigabit Ethernet port shipments fell 6.5 per cent and revenues fell 15.6 per cent.
