Gartner: IBM Software leads India middleware in 2010

IBM Software Group combined of integration, collaboration, systems management and development software, leads India middleware market in 2010 with 31.4 per cent market share and grew at 15.4 per cent vis-à-vis 2009, based on revenue, according to a report from Gartner Inc.

IBM Software Group is providing organisations with smarter software to tackle with some of their most complex business and industry challenges, while helping drive profitable growth. Everything from cars, appliances, roadways, power grids, clothes, and even natural systems such as agriculture and waterways are increasingly instrumented, interconnected and infused with intelligence.

According to the report, IBM maintained its 2010 leadership as the leading software vendor in India with 55.3 per cent market share in the application infrastructure and middleware (AIM) software segment based on total revenue for 2010, extending its lead to more than 3x that of its closest competitor. According to Gartner, IBM grew 16.5 per cent in 2010, higher than the overall market. The India application infrastructure and middleware software market grew 12.7 per cent to Rs.1,018.75 crore ($228.2 million).

According to the Gartner report, IBM holds the number one market share position in India in key sub-markets growing faster than the overall IT market. For example, the Business Process Management Suite (BPMS) segment grew at 4.9 per cent in 2010. IBM was also named the number one vendor in India for BPM software with a 43.3 per cent share, growing at 20.2 per cent vis-a-vis 2009. BPM software enables companies to develop and implement processes that help their businesses be more agile and grow.

Gartner reports that IBM continues to be number one in other growing and key areas including the Message Oriented Middleware market, the Application Severs market, the Transaction Processing Monitor market, SOA Governance Technologies, Enterprise Service Bus Suites and Integration Appliances market. IBM's continued market share leadership in middleware is said to be a key reason for the company's strong growth.

In addition, Gartner names IBM the India market share leader in the application development software segment based on total revenue for 2010. According to the report, IBM was the leading software vendor with 31.7 per cent market share and grew by 6.8 per cent in 2010. Besides its overall lead, according to the Gartner report, IBM holds the number one market share position in key sub-markets. For example, the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) segment grew at 11.6 per cent in 2010 and IBM was the number one vendor in ALM software with a 60.6 per cent share, according to Gartner.
