Small and medium businesses (SMBs) are set to jump their wireless data services spending by 42 per cent from 2010 to 2015, according to In-Stat. United States SOHO businesses are said to lead the category, increasing spending by over 46 per cent.

"Voice has become a commodity, with growth in voice services essentially being stagnant across all sizes of business," said Greg Potter, data analyst of In-Stat.

Potter added, "Messaging has been wonderful to the carriers, but the revenue picture here is stagnant as well, with marginal increases or decreases depending on the size of business. Future growth is all about providing data access to smartphones, tablets, and notebooks."

In-Stat said in its research entitled "US Business Spending by Size of Business and Vertical, 2010–2015: Wireless Data, Handsets, and Voice" that US business telecom spending for the 2010–2015 period is said to provide detailed segmentation by product category, size of business, and vertical market. Detail is included for wireless data (access and other, messaging), wireless handsets, and wireless voice services.
