Tantalum capacitors designed for extended product life

AVX Corp. extends its TRM and TRJ Professional Series of SMD tantalum capacitors offering low ESR values and reduced DCL (DC leakage current) by 25 per cent aimed at high-end commercial applications that require extended product life.

According to AVX, the TRM Series and TRJ Series can withstand high thermo mechanical stresses and boast of failure rates of better than 0.5 per cent/1000 hours at 85�C and full-rated voltage.

"High-end products need to be affordable, reliable and safe, whether they are destined for automotive, medical, aerospace, military or other products that are expected to be durable," said Tomas Zednicek, AVX worldwide technical marketing manager for tantalum division.

Zednicek added that the company's latest tantalum capacitors offer the right cost and performance proposition for developers of high-end commercial applications.

The TRJ Professional capacitors have voltage range of 6.3V to 50V, with DCL leakage of 0.0075CV.

AVX said the capacitors are twice as reliable as commercial grade tantalum capacitor products with mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2,00,000 hours.

They are also designed and tested to withstand high current surges and are qualified to AECQ-200 automotive requirements.

The TRM Professional is a multi-anode type tantalum capacitor with a voltage range of 6.3V to 50V. Devices offer very low ESR and DCL leakage of 0.0075CV. Reliability is double that of the standard TPM multi-anode product range at 0.5 per cent/1khrs and MTBF is 2,00,000 hours, said AVX.

It added that the acceptable quality level (AQL) is 0.10 per cent for the TRM Professional against 0.25 per cent for standard product. The TRM Professional multi-anode tantalum capacitors are qualified to AECQ-200.
