µModule regulator achieves 95% efficiency

Linear Technology Corp. reveals the LTM4613 step-down µModule regulator which claims the highest output power in the EN55022 Class B-certified family of µModule regulators while achieving peak operating efficiencies above 95 per cent in a 24V to 12V output application.

Certified by TUV Rheinland, an accredited laboratory, to meet EN55022 Class B EMI (electromagnetic interference) emissions limits at up to 96W of output power, the LTM4613 step-downµModule regulator has an input voltage range of 5V–36V, an output current of up to 8A and an output voltage range of 3.3V–15V with 2 per cent accuracy.

According to Linear Technology, this performance is attributed to an integrated pi-filter, meticulous layout, shielded inductor and carefully controlled power transistor drive as well as removing the need for external filters, magnetic shields and ferrite beads for a trouble-free design process.

The LTM4613 encloses the step-down controller, power transistors, inductor, compensation, input filter and a modest amount of input and output capacitance in a compact, thermally efficient 15mm x 15mm x 4.3mm LGA surface mount plastic package.

It supports highly-accurate current sharing by paralleling of outputs by using a clock input pin to synchronise one or more LTM4613 regulators. Additional features include externally adjustable soft-start, output voltage tracking and margining, and switching frequency.

Also, three temperature grades are available: E and I grades for the -40°C to +125°C temperature range as well as the MP grade for operation over the -55°C to +125°C temperature range.

The LTM4613 is priced at Rs.1,089.29 ($24.40) for 1,000-piece quantities and all temperature grades are available for immediate delivery from stock.
