Western Digital Corp. releases the WD AV-GP 2.5TB and 3TB 3.5inch hard drives offering cool-running, low-power consumption and high storage capacity aimed at reliable 24/7 video streaming in IPTV, DVR, external multimedia storage, media centre PC and surveillance systems.

With capabilities to capture up to 12 simultaneous HD video streams with SilkStream technology, both drives optimise AV applications, like PVR/DVR, IPTV and video surveillance.

Covered by a three-year limited warranty, the WD AV-GP drives were field tested to have a 1.0 million hour MTBF rating.

According to the company, drives with capacities in excess of 2.19TB currently present barriers for certain PC hardware, firmware and software. For example, drives larger than 2.19TB are not supported by systems running Windows XP while systems with 32bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 relegate drives larger than 2.19TB to be used as secondary drives.

Because of these, it is important to review existing PC specifications prior to the installation of either the 2.5TB or 3TB WD AV-GP drives which are now available through select resellers and distributors in the United States.

Shipping immediately, the MSRP for the WD AV-GP 2.5TB hard drive, with model number WD25EURS, is Rs.7,142.41 ($159.99) per unit while the MSRP for the 3TB drive, with model number WD30EURS, is Rs.8,035.27 ($179.99).
