Nintendo has yet to release the 3D-enabled 3DS game console in the first half of 2011, yet In-Stat believes that the industry will grow faster than expected.

The fledgling market for 3D game consoles could become a huge market in a few years, according to In-Stat, which predicted that more than 1.10 crore such consoles will be shipped by 2014.

"This is primarily because the two leading handheld game manufacturers need something to differentiate from one another in this maturing market—3D technology will be that differentiator," In-Stat's Stephanie Ethier said.

A study conducted by the research firm indicates that game consoles will account for 65 per cent of all 3D-enabled mobile devices shipments this year while lack of mobile 3D content will be the biggest barrier to 3D adoption in mobile devices over the coming year. In-Stat also said that 3D-enabled smartphones will account for some 45 per cent of all 3D-enabled mobile devices shipments.
