Touchscreen controllers support up to 1mm stylus

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. introduces two families of its TrueTouch touchscreen controllers, the CY8CTMA340-XXX-03 and CY8CTMA340-XXX-11 families that deliver an innovative solution for thin (up to 1 mm) stylus use targeting stylus-enabled capacitive touchscreen devices.

Until now, the traditional benefit of resistive touchscreens has been superior stylus support. Many Asian languages need enhanced character recognition for reliable text input, and therefore resistive technology continues to be utilised. Alternatively, Cypress's TrueTouch controllers deliver a true "Resistive Stylus Replacement" (RSR) solution which matches the size and performance of resistive stylus implementations while offering the additional benefits of the capacitive touch solution. This functionality enables lower cost feature phones as well as smart phones in Asia to shift to superior capacitive touchscreens from resistive technology.

All the standard benefits of Cypress's TrueTouch technology may be found in the new touchscreen controllers. These include very high signal-to-noise ratio of more than 80:1 RMS, low power consumption (less than 1.3mA low-power state current), water rejection and wet-finger tracking, and more. Additionally, they provide highly accurate stylus tracking that is better than 0.7 mm, along with 120Hz refresh rates for full handwriting recognition.

The CY8CTMA340-XXX-03 (two-finger support) and CY8CTMA340-XXX-11 (four-finger support) device families are now available from Cypress, samples may also be obtained by qualified customers.
