The IEEE IP-XACT (IEEE 1685) standard programme sponsor, Accellera says its standard for IP reuse has been downloaded more than 1,200 times in the past six months, doubling or tripling each month since the standard first became available in June.

IEEE 1685 is a standard description for IP blocks for EDA environments. It provides an approach to creating and using IP blocks in a standard way so that IP use and re-use is easier and more economical.

"IP is a valuable part of SoC designs," said Shishpal Rawat, chair, Accellera, in a statement. "Our collaboration with the IEEE-SA [the IEEE Standards Association] gives the worldwide design community access to our first IP-creation focused standard at no charge."

IEEE 1685, "Standard for IP-XACT, Standard Structure for Packaging, Integrating and Re-Using IP within Tool-Flows," describes an XML Schema for meta-data documenting of IP used in the development, implementation and verification of electronic systems with an API to provide tool access to the meta-data.
