Sharp Corp. prepares for mass production of its newly developed single crystalline solar cell to cover everything from solar cells to solar modules.

The company will begin mass producing the solar cell at an annual production capacity of 200MW within fiscal year 2010, at its solar cell plant in Green Front Sakai, in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.

This solar cell that touts high conversion efficiency uses a back contact structure wherein the electrodes are connected on the back-side. This eliminates the need for electrodes to be set on the front-side, thus, increasing the area that receives light.

Sharp also announced a new alignment technology it calls the Alignment Sheet system, which reduces the connection resistance between adjacent solar cells.
