Tata DoCoMo 3G services go live

Tata Teleservices Ltd.'s (TTSL) Tata DoCoMo lays its claim as the first private telecommunications company to launch services 3G phones in India. It has launched 3G mobile services in nine circles, allowing subscribers to access high-speed Internet telephony. Two state-owned companies BSNL and MTNL launched services over a year ago.

Tata had pocketed 3G spectrum in nine circles of Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh (including Chhatisgarh), Rajasthan, Gujarat, UP (West), Punjab, Haryana and Maharashtra, in the auction held recently.

Tata DoCoMo's 3G network, created by the support of NTT DoCoMo, supports access to broadband Internet with speeds up to 21.1Mbit/s and services will be commercially available from the morning of Diwali.

TTSL Anil Sardana, said: "We were able to complete the growing power of our network to support 3G services, due to high [3G readiness]. Our role in the nine circles 3G will be completed this year."

Ryuji Yamada, President and CEO of NTT DoCoMo, said,"After nearly a decade of success in providing 3G services in Japan, we are delighted to have brought our experience [in] technical and commercial [to] TTSL, our global strategic partner."

In the future, NTT DoCoMo will use their experience and value added mobile services in world markets through collaboration with partners such as TTSL.
