STMicroelectronics releases the S-Touch Fingertip, a single-chip capacitive touch controller that touts true multi-touch capability for slimmer widescreen devices such as smartphones.

S-Touch Fingertip controller

STMicroelectronics said the S-Touch FingerTip controller supports unlimited simultaneous touches and stylus operations while enhancing multi-touch actions such as pinch-to-zoom. Its patented analogue IP provides high signal-to-noise-ratio performance with high scan speed that allows robust and fast touch performance.

Among its key features are advanced noise cancellation that allows it to support the latest on-cell LCD technology without requiring a ground shielding layer between the display and the touch sensor, thereby reducing assembly costs while enhancing image quality; 8kV HBM ESD protection; ultra-low-power consumption in touch-ready mode; auto-tuning and self calibration; number of nodes at 288 (18x16); and a small package of either QFN 56 (7x7mm) or ultra-small flip-chip CSP 49 (3x3mm).
