Conexant Systems Inc. unveils the CX20745, a power-efficient stereo audio codec designed for consumer electronics products, such as mobile Internet devices, smartbooks, and Web tablets.

Conexant said the CX20745 codec, which is now available for sampling in a complete evaluation kit, is the first in a family of high-performance audio solutions for compact mobile devices.

The CX20745's improved performance is credited to a power-efficient Stereo Class-D amplifier capable of driving up to 2mW per channel. The codec supports Open Mobile Terminal Platform headset input/output with command-sensing functionality, as well as digital and analogue microphone inputs.

Other key features include a CPU resource-friendly hardware equaliser that boosts application performance, dynamic range and microphone automatic gain control, a high-performance multi-bit digital/analogue and analogue/digital converter, and support for differential internal signalling to enhance audio fidelity. The solution also uses direct current cancellation to eliminate the popping sound during power-state transitions. A temperature range of -40 to 85°C is prescribed for the CX20745.
