Netlist Inc. has been granted a patent for its Planar-X innovation, which uses innovative circuit design to provide additional board space for a large number of DRAM component, allowing the use of higher-capacity but more affordable RDIMM modules.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office handed Netlist Patent No. 7,811,097 entitled, "Circuit with Flexible Portion," for the innovation, which may also be combined with Netlist's HyperCloud technology to develop high-performance modules for virtualisation, cloud data centres and applications with high-performance computing memory requirements.

The Planar-X modules are JEDEC compatible and plug into standard server memory slots.

Steve McClure, vice president of marketing at Netlist, said Planar-X "will be a key component to delivering 32GB RDIMM solutions using standard 2Gb DRAM technology available today."
