Lantiq expands its XWAY xRX family with the addition of the GRX168, GRX188 and GRX288, three single-chip Gigabit Ethernet gateway IC solutions featuring up to 2Gbit/s of routing throughput.

The ICs are designed to support the Gigabit processing requirements of DOCSIS3.0, VDSL2 and xPON access technologies and support concurrent operation of 802.11n WLAN at 2.4 and 5GHz with aggregate throughput up to 270Mb/s that offers high-performance wireless connectivity.

The ICs are based on the same architecture as Lantiq's XWAY ARX100 and VRX200 ADSL2+/VDSL2 solutions, with a 32bit MIPS CPU core and separate 32bit Protocol Processor Engine (PPE). The PPE, which is IPv6-ready, crunches data from the CPU for optimal throughput at reduced system clock speeds. It promises smooth concurrent handling of IPTV, voice lines, and data on wired or wireless LANs.

Lantiq claims that the best-rated IC in the series, the GRX288 that is rated up to 2Gbit/s, is ideal for xPON connectivity.

Lantiq said the GRX series will allow system developers to design innovative home network services deployed on an independent gateway device or delivered from typical broadband services using the company's Universal Gateway, a production-ready Linux-based software package.
