Rambus Inc. and Nvidia announced the formal signing of a patent licence agreement involving memory controllers. In the agreement, Rambus has given Nvidia a patent licence for particular memory controllers at a 1 per cent royalty rate for SDR memory controllers and a 2 per cent royalty rate for other specific memory controllers.

The deal includes DDR, DDR2, DDR3, LPDDR, LPDDR2, GDDR2, GDDR3, GDDR4, and portions of GDDR5 memory controllers.

On the other hand, Nvidia has given no licences to Rambus. The signed patent licence agreement has been effective since August 12, 2010. However, both parties have not signed any releases of liability, nor dismissed any outstanding litigation between them.

The terms of the licence are in accordance with the agreement that Rambus offers as part of its commitment to the European Commission.
